1 Corinthians 1:17 (KJV) For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. )

It seems to me that the modern church has strayed from this simple pretext mentioned in this scripture. In my opinion too many churches now days, concentrate not so much on spreading the gospel as they do on "growing their congregations", both in numbers of people and in financial concerns. Today a successful church is gauged by how many people sit in their pews and how much money that church can generate rather than in how God is worshipped and glorified by His Body, the church.

Today, ministers are coughed out of seminaries by the thousands every year. Many of these are taught, by men and not by the Spirit, not so much in spiritual things as they are in the physical "requirements" of a modern church so that they might be capable of building huge mega-churches.

Paul, called by many, the greatest preacher ever; states in this letter to the church at Corinth that his purpose from God was not to baptize, or to teach with wisdom of words but to magnify what Jesus did for all of mankind on the cross at Calvary. That message that Paul preached has not changed. It is the same today as it was then. God - the Son, left His throne in heaven and came to earth as a man and lived a perfectly sinless life. He loved every one and He hated sin.

Then He carried the sins of all mankind to a cross on Calvary and died there, fulfilling the required punishment for all sin. Three days later His human body was resurrected from death and He was later transported back to His throne at the right hand of God - the Father. He remains there still, continuing to intervene in prayer for everybody - everyday. And someday, He will return to earth again, still a man, and still God, to rule over all things forever, this time from a throne on earth.

He still loves everyone, and still hates sin. Do you know Him yet? He's waiting...
